About Susan Wyler, MPH, RDN, LDN
A graduate of the University of Chicago, Wyler earned her Master's in Public Health degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she majored in nutrition. The MPH combined didactic studies with over 1,000 hours of internship that led to certification as a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist. After a public health internship that focused on diabetes self-management education followed by comprehensive clinical training at New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington, she completed an advanced internship at one of the leading cancer hospitals in France. There she conducted a research study on nutritional problems related to advanced lung cancer and chemotherapy. A member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, Wyler is licensed in the state of North Carolina.
Wyler previously studied integrative nutrition here and in Switzerland during her collaboration on a book, The Swiss Secret to Optimal Health, with Dr. Thomas Rau, internationally acclaimed practitioner of biological medicine, an approach that is especially effective at dealing with chronic inflammatory and degenerative diseases. She is also co-author of The Acid Reflux Solution and The Diabetes Solution: How to Control Type 2 Diabetes and Reverse Prediabetes Using Simple Diet and Lifestyle Changes.
A former culinary professional, Wyler was food editor of Food & Wine magazine for many years and has published over half a dozen well-reviewed cookbooks. As both editor and book packager, she worked with many of the best chefs and cooking teachers of our time, including James Beard, Julia Child, Paula Wolfert, Marcella Hazan, Rick Bayless, Thomas Keller, and Iron Chef Morimoto.
Wyler founded Wyler Nutritional Wellness to coordinate her culinary expertise with the latest scientific knowledge in dietetics. She uses evidence-based nutrition information and compassionate counseling, combined with an individualized integrative/functional approach, to deal effectively with problems of weight control, food allergies, and management of chronic inflammatory and degenerative diseases, such as obesity, diabetes, IBS, Crohn's disease, hypertension, heart disease, acid reflux, rheumatoid arthritis, and cardiovascular disease.
"Food First" is Wyler's motto. Customized dietary programs and original recipes are tailored to each client's individual needs. Only after detailed analysis are supplements prescribed where needed.
